662 HYD has covered just 66,000 miles from new and has recently been subject of a £48,000 refurbishment program. The Mercedes Benz has had just three lady owners from new and was supplied new on the 29th November 1979 by Jim Russell Mercedes Benz in Downham Market, Norfolk. The first of three lady owners had the car maintained by the supplying dealer and the original service book has been stamped at 5082, 16837 and 26543 miles on the 13th November 1985. On the 17th November 1985 the SL was registered to its second owner, a lady based in Hemel Hempstead who kept the Mercedes Benz for ten years.
Whilst in North London, the car was serviced by Mercedes Benz at 30635 miles in 1988 and in 1995 the SL sold to the most recent owner who has kept the car for 25 years. In 1996 Mercedes Benz Greenoaks Limited stamped the book at 45172 miles and Young and Pollock in Maidenhead serviced the car at 50175 miles in May 1997 and in the November prepared the car for MOT with 53130 miles covered. In 1999 the lady owner moved home to Scotland, based in Glasgow and various service receipts are with the comprehensive history file. MOT certificates from 1995, her entire ownership are also with the car and the most recent stamp in the service book is from a classic car specialist at 66592 miles.
Having spent its life as a totally original, low mileage car, by 2016 the SL needed some cosmetic and body attention. With three careful lady owners, the original interior was and is today still in beautiful condition but showing signs of corrosion. The SL was taken to Clydesdale Classics and treated to a restoration costing a staggering £48,000 with invoices and photos on file. The car was stripped down, taken to a rolling shell and treated to a program of refurbishment that included various new panels and repair sections. The interior was fully removed, the dashboard removed and the bulk head professionally restored, the underside was stripped back, all corrosion removed, restored and then prepared and coated with stoneguard. Internal floor pans were also treated and prepared, as was the boot compartment. With the bodyshell re-furbished, the SL was then treated to a full re-paint in its original colour and then re-fitted with all parts.
662 HYD is a lovely, usable SL with exceptional history, low mileage, just three owners and is beautifully presented in its period colours, riding on original steel wheels with lovely 1970's hub caps. The car has a lovely Walnut soft top and matching hard top, the original check interior is beautiful and original and the Ivory paintwork is of a superb standard. Having had a £48,000 refurbishment program, the body is in excellent order. Having not had any use since completion of the works in 2018, we will be carrying out some pre-sale preparation work and then supplying the SL to its next owner with a full 12 months MOT and service.
