BLR 829B was first registered on the 11th September 1964 by London County Council Licenses to Hugh Barrington Murray in Renfrewshire, Scotland who owned the for 35 years up to 1999. Whilst the Mercedes Benz had just the one owner, it did spend two years on the Channel Islands, registered in Guernsey but was back in Scotland by 1967. The Mercedes Benz now records 74000 miles which is strongly believed genuine with some lovely originality evident. In 1999 the car changed hands for the first time, moving South to Devon where it spent several years before returning more recently to Scotland.
This stunning car is made even more interesting having the rarer four speed manual floor change gearbox and sunroof and comes with an extensive history file to include original handbooks, MOT certificates and various invoices. Receipts date back to 2000 and in ten years or so receipts total in the region of £10,000. Substantial work included improvements to brakes (new discs, pads, hoses and pipes), suspension, new exhaust system, gear lever bushes and rod, various new seals, interior work to include new carpets and headlining, woodwork re-veneered in Burr Walnut and re-lacquered in high gloss, new radiator and a set of tyres. More recent expenditure includes a programme of work carried out by Classic Restorations of Alyth that included servicing the brakes, fitting a new ref counter cable and rev counter unit, two new steering knuckles, stripping down the front suspension and fitting new king pin bushes, removal of dynamo and control box for specialist checking and repairs, new fuel pipes, various new ignition items and cleaning out injectors and pipe work. In total over £4,000 has been spent over 2015/2016.
This stunning Mercedes Benz Coupe presents superbly with a fabulous gleaming paint finish and first class straight panels. Chrome work is superbly presented and the interior trim is fabulous with exceptional woodwork, lovely headlining, carpets and original seats. On the road this 220SEB performs superbly with its 2195cc, SOHC engine with fuel injection producing impressive power whilst being quiet, smooth and very strong. The four speed gearbox changes smoothly both up and down and the Mercedes is effortless to drive with precise, light steering and efficient brakes with firm suspension.
