1937 Morris 8 Series I Saloon

This delightful Morris Eight Series I Saloon was built on the 10th March 1937 and despatched three days later. The Morris was supplied new sliding sunroof and was first registered on the 31st March 1937 with the Oxfordshire registration mark EFC 954. We have an old brown ‘buff’ continuation logbook dating to 1960 confirming the car was finished as it is today with Black over Blue paintwork, residing in Rugby, Warwickshire. We also have a 1969 MOT certificate from Northampton Car Mart. From the paperwork it appears the Morris was taken off the road for during the 1970’s and in 1992 it was back in Warwickshire, taxed and roadworthy again. The Morris then spent 20 years with one owner, changing hands in 2012 to an owner in Kettering, Northamptonshire.

The Morris spent between 2012 and 2015 in Northamptonshire and over the three years was treated to around £4500 of expenditure. The Morris engine was stripped and treated to new liners, new pistons, rods and main bearings were white metalled and the crankshaft re-ground. Valve seats were refaced, the timing chain replaced and all new gaskets fitted as required. EFC 954 was also treated to new kings pins, engine mounts, radiator mounts, new hub caps and some brightwork. The Morris was nicely fettled and on the local classic car show circuit, attending various events before being sold in 2015 to the most recent owner in York.

EFC 954 has had relatively little use over the past four years but has been kept on the button and occasionally taken out for some local motoring. The Morris is in very good mechanical order, the engine performs well with correct oil pressure, the gearbox performs very well and steering, brakes and suspension all feel great with good general handling. The car is a delight on the road, it is great fun and an incredibly usable pre war Saloon. The Morris Eight presents beautifully with lovely deep paintwork, smart chrome and the interior has a remarkably original feel to it. The leather seats appear original and are lovely, the headlining and dashboard and are in lovely condition and the car feels correct, original and retains its wonderful period features. EFC 954 offers great value, and is ready to use and enjoy requiring no major expenditure.
