1934 Riley 9 Monaco

JN 4438 was first registered on the 6th June 1934 and remarkably stayed with its Surrey, later Wimbledon, SW19 and more recently Sutton based first owner for 66 years, changing hands for the first time in 2000. The Riley comes with some lovely history to include brown 'buff' logbook, later logbooks, 1960's tax discs and MOT's dating back as far back as 1966. There is also a letter dated from 1978 to the DVLA stating the car had been in store since the 1960's. The DVLA then supplied an up to date logbook and ensured the Riley's original registration mark JN 4438 was kept with the car.

There is a detailed photograph record of the Riley being restored to a very high standard during the 1990's. The car was totally stripped down to the bare chassis. The chassis was treated and painted, the mechanicals stripped down and rebuilt, the car treated to a new wood frame and the body completely restored to a very high standard. On completion of what was essentially a nut and bolt rebuild, the car was driven to various shows and events. Photographs showing stages of the comprehensive restoration are with the car.

Having had a top quality restoration and clearly excellent maintenance and good conditions since, the car is truly beautiful. The Riley has a lovely deep paint finish, a sharp straight body and excellent frame, bright work and glass is very smart and the car has a lovely detailed look to it. The interior is outstanding and probably the best we've seen on a Riley Monaco. The upholstery has been professionally re-trimmed with no expense spared with stunning seats, headlining, door cards, carpets and woodwork. The boot is also nicely presented, as is the engine bay. On the road the car is delightful with a strong 9hp engine offering good oil pressure, the four speed gearbox is a delight to use and the car steers, handles, brakes and runs well. All ancillaries' looks smart, clean and well maintained, all gauges and electrics work and the car charges correctly. The tyres are all in excellent order, as are the wire spoked wheels. It's a gorgeous looking car and it's ready to be used and enjoyed.
