PBJ 260 was first registered on the 25th March 1954 through East Suffolk County Council, County Hall, Ipswich. The Riley was sold new to a Mr P Kent and according to the original brown 'buff' logbook, the Riley stayed within the same family until 1965, changing hands to somebody in the same town of Stowmarket. During the late 1960's the Riley was sold to a Company in Whitley Bay, Northumberland and the Riley has stayed in the North East until selling to us, being driven to North Yorkshire from Gateshead faultlessly. Our Riley RME is a remarkably original car that still retains its original registration mark and is still in its original colour combination of Black over Blue. The car has had paintwork over the years and presents very well with a good shine. The bodywork and woodwork are in very good order and the car has good straight panels and bright, nicely aged chrome. The interior retains its original leather seats, door cards and headlining. Whilst the upholstery has an aged look, it tells us this has never been a car left to deteriorate and it's patina certainly gives the car some character. It's clear by the fact it drives superbly and made the trip from Gateshead without hesitation, that this is a useable classic that can be driven with absolute confidence. Whilst we cannot guarantee the mileage, we believe the car was taken off the road in 1976 with a recorded mileage of 49,566 at its MOT test in Whitley Bay in 1975. We also have the tax disc from 1975. We believe from the structurally strong condition, the Riley was dry stored and it wasn't recommissioned and put back on the road until 2010 when the mileage was recorded at 50,037 miles. Since 2010 the Riley has covered in the region of 5500 miles taking the mileage to 55,560.
During a programme of recommissioning the Riley fuel pump was rebuilt, the handbrake cable replaced, the master cylinder rebuilt and the thermostat housing replaced. The exhaust front silencer was replaced, a new fuel sender unit fitted, the water pump rebuilt and the cylinder head gasket replaced. The car was serviced and checked over before being put through an MOT and put back on the road for the first time in 34 years. The Riley drives superbly with a strong engine holding very good oil pressure. The gearbox feels strong and is a delight to use, the handling and braking very good as expected with a well maintained, useable example. The Riley is on the button, reliable and can be put immediately into regular use.
