MP 704 was ordered in July 1927 and delivered in late September to Park Ward & Co Ltd of Willesden. Rolls Royce delivered chassis number GUJ 36 to Park Ward with the instructions 'to be used for Demonstration purposes'. From the factory records we can confirm Rolls Royce ordered the chassis to receive special attention in view of its demonstrator role. In September 1928 MP 704 was sold to its first owner in Hanover Court, Westminster, W1. The Rolls Royce was sold to the second owner in Clapham, South West London during the early 1930's and eventually passed to a lady in Kent who kept the car until 1959. From 1959 this 20H.P was owned by body builders I.Wilkinson Ltd of Derby who restored the vehicle. Wilkinsons of Derby upgraded the Rolls Royce to limousine status with six light limousine coachwork by Arthur Mulliner with sliding division and occasional rear seats.
MP 704 is smartly presented and equipped with side-mounted spare wheel, Lucas lighting, rear luggage carrier and opening windscreen. The Rolls Royce still retains its original registration mark, 1950's brown ‘buff' logbook and comes with copy factory order, build sheets and MOT certificates and tax discs going back 20 years. The older paintwork is of a very good standard and the upholstery is largely original with the exception of the seats which have been re-upholstered in leather around 5 years ago.
This fabulous driving Rolls Royce has been with the last owner for over four years and has benefitted from significant expenditure. The Rolls Royce had very little use over the past twenty years and has been recently improved with a full engine rebuild to include a re-bore to standard specification, new pistons, new big end and main bearings, re-ground crankshaft, new copper tubes in cylinder block, all new timing gear bearings and a new clutch. The water pump and dynamo have been re-conditioned and only in the region of 1000 miles have been covered since. MP 704 has been driven here from York and runs beautifully holding excellent oil pressure. The car rides superbly, the brakes are excellent and the gear change incredibly smooth. This 20 HP Rolls Royce starts perfectly and is an absolute delight to drive. A selection of photographs detailing the recent rebuild are with the car, as are photos of the bare chassis when owned by Wilkinsons of Derby when undergoing its body restoration.
This is a great opportunity to purchase a strong, mechanically rebuilt and reliable Rolls Royce 20HP under £30,000.
