1947 Rover 12 Tourer

Only 200 of these tourers were built during 1947. Chassis numbers R7250001 to R7250200 were used and this Rover is number 36. Based on the P2 chassis, the aluminium coach built body was manufactured by A.P. Coachbuilders of Coventry.

Built for the export market, this particular car was exported to Dewars Garage Calcutta India and was re imported into Britain in 1952. We are told 32 of the 1947 Rover 12 HP Tourers are known to exist worldwide. MXP 22 is happy cruising at 55-60 mph and averages around 30mpg. The car has no known mechanical faults and runs and drives perfectly

The Rover has a detailed history file and contains a photo record of a thorough engine rebuild in late 1996. MOT's go back to 1994 when the mileage was 15,298 and at the time of rebuild the mileage totaled over 20,000. Today the recorded mileage is approaching 37,000.

The Rover has always generated lots of interest at shows and was given 3rd place at Tatton Park, 3rd place at Newby Hall and a 1st prize at Towneley Hall. MXP 22 has won a respectable number of trophies and has proved to be a fabulous car for the last owners.

In more recent years considerable expenditure has improved the car significantly. Amongst many other parts, a new exhaust system costing over £300 has been fitted along with four new tyres, new clutch, a new fuel pump and new rear axle oil seals and brake linings. A list of all recent work is with the history file.

The weather equipment is like new and the upholstery has been recently re-trimmed. Woodwork is still very good and the car has an original tool kit. Chrome work is of a high standard and paintwork is stunning with a beautiful high quality finish.

This is a stunning example of a very rare motor car. Our Rover is ideal for long distance touring or showing and we know the car very well having sold it to the previous owner in Cornwall in 2009. Over the past two years the Rover has covered 1600 faultless miles.
