GWD 485 was first registered on the 26th July 1948. Our Rover was built in right hand drive format to export specification but like many 1947/1948 Rover export models it ended up being sold on the home market. The registration prefix GWD is a Warwickshire registration issued in 1948 but we don't have any history of the cars early life.
The earliest we can trace the car is 1977 when it was owned by a Rover Club member in Elderslie in Renfrew. He had owned the Rover since 1971 and his son inherited the car in 1989 in need of restoration work. Having being in the same family for 19 years the Rover was sold still in need of restoration to a gentleman in Glasgow. The Rover was MOT tested in 1992 so had clearly undergone some restoration/re-commissioning work and the car changed hands again in 1993. MOT's from 1993 show the car was in annual use right throughout the 1990's and 2000's and these certificates show the Rover has covered in the region of 10,000 miles in this time.
This history details some major refurbishment in from 2009 - 2011 to include to include a full re-trim in leather, re-furnished woodwork, work to the front and rear suspension, propshaft, rear axle, front hubs, steering box, unleaded cylinder head and new stainless steel exhaust system. For the past year or so the Rover has been owned by one of our regular long term customers in Essex and he has only parted with the car in order to own a Rover he once owned. During his ownership the P3 has been a delight to own and has proven completely reliable.
GWD 485 presents beautifully with lovely bodywork, paint and chrome. The engine bay is nicely detailed and the interior is stunning with a high quality finish. The P3 drives superbly with a super smooth six cylinder engine that performs perfectly with very good oil pressure and gear changes are excellent. The Rover handles, brakes and holds the road superbly and is great fun to drive. This is a wonderful looking post war Rover that is being sold in strong mechanical order, driving superbly and is ready to go.
