This is another truly wonderful find. NFC 854 has to be one of the most original pre or post war Rovers we have ever owned. The car is remarkably original and has an unrepeatable level of patina. From an old 'buff' logbook copy we know our Rover was in Eastbourne, Sussex in 1962 and in 1977 the Rover was sold to a lady in Eastbourne. In 1985 the car sold to the proprietor of a London Rolls Royce and Bentley repair and restoration specialist, Mike R Berry who owned the car until 2007. What is even more interesting is the fact that our Rover has 24000 miles recorded on the speedometer and MOT certificates accompany the car dating back to 1979 with 18975 miles. This paperwork warrants the fact that NFC 854 has covered 5000 miles in 37 years.
28 previous MOT certificates show the Rover has been covering low annual mileage and having being owned by a restoration specialist, it has been maintained to the highest standards despite covering very low mileage year on year. In 1984 we know the Rover was treated to a new water pump, rebuilt radiator matrix, new thermostat and housing, new cast bottom water outlet, new starter solenoid and carburettor overhaul. The Rover was also treated to new door rubbers and boot seal, door handles, boot handle, rear bumpers and overriders were re-chromed and the interior woodwork removed and polished. New shock absorbers were fitted , some electrical work was carried out and the bodywork was treated to a T-Cut and wax. This was probably the closest to a restoration this wonderful car has had. In 1993 the engine was removed and treated to new pistons, valves, guides, bearing shells, oil pump, crank re-grind, new gaskets and other mechanical work included a new steering link. At this point the interior was treated to a new head cloth and carpet.
Condition wise, this is just as it should be. The paintwork looks so original and is likely to be totally original in places. Interestingly coach lines are painted on, as is an emblem on each front door with Latin text that means 'nothing without work'. The chrome work is still of a lovely standard, the original number is still on the car, the Rover has a working sunroof and it really is a time warp. The upholstery is stunning with original leather, excellent wood work and the headlining and carpets still look new after the 1993 replacement. On the road NFC 854 is fabulous. This car drives so well with a lovely strong engine holding excellent oil pressure, the gearbox is a delight to use and handling, braking and steering all feel sharp, precise and correct. The Rover still retains its under dash tool kit, the jack is present in the boot and the engine bay appears tidy and very original. We are delighted to own this special car and it must be cherished and preserved as it has been for almost seventy years. A truly unbelievable find, a special car, unrepeatable.
