This outstanding Triumph Herald has only covered 26500 miles from new. GWK 63D was first registered on the 13th June 1966 and left the factory in white with red upholstery. The Triumph Herald had just one owner from 1966 to 1998 and was sold to the second owner with just 26,338 miles covered from new.
When purchased in 1998 the new owner drove the Triumph just 25 miles home. The car was totally original but in need of some light restoration and detail work. The Triumph was totally stripped down and the chassis cleaned and painted. The car was re-painted in its original colour and new window glass rubbers and a new set of bumpers fitted. Bright work was sent for re-chroming and the wheels were powder coated, as were the side valances, heater box, air cleaner, horn bracket, battery clamp, front and rear suspension components and rocker cover. The front and rear suspension were totally rebuilt using polyurethane bushes, the brakes re-commissioned with uprated brake discs, new brake pads, new brake pipes and new master cylinder, rear wheel cylinders and flexible hoses. The engine was removed, the head skimmed and converted to unleaded. A new clutch, radiator and thermostat were fitted and the carb was overhauled. Other new parts included a coil, plugs, distributor cap, throttle cable, condenser and points. An alternator was fitted and a new set of Goodyear tyres. The interior, still in beautiful original order only required new carpets. The work was photographed and a great deal of time taken to ensure the car was detailed and finished to a beautiful standard and since restoration just a few hundred miles have been covered.
GWK 63D presents beautifully with an excellent body with stunning panel gaps. The underside is exceptional, as is the bulkhead and under bonnet detail. The Triumph has beautiful original trim and is certainly one of the very best Herald Saloons we have seen. The car drives superbly with an excellent engine and gearbox. The brakes, suspension and steering are all superb and the Triumph is ready for the show season. The car comes with old MOT certificates, original service book, sales and service directory, owners handbook, buff logbook and photographs of the restoration work.
