This is a very rare car being a late Triumph Renown MKII TDC that was manufactured in the final year of production, 1954. Just 2800 TDC models were ever built and we are told just 150 are said to remain. This final version of the Renown series is equipped with the 2.0 engine and has the desirable optional extra of the Laycock de Normanville overdrive. The car has spent the past few years with a collector and has been one of 20 or so cars that have been kept on the button and capable of regular use. 280 YUF has covered around 1000 miles since 2012 and has been recently driven from Lincolnshire over to North Yorkshire.
Our Triumph Renown presents very well with lovely Metallic Grey paintwork. The car has not been painted for some time and presents remarkably well with a good strong, straight body and bright chrome. The upholstery has been nicely kept with smart, original leather, good carpets, door cards and headlining. The woodwork has been recently re-varnished and polished and presents very well. The Renown is certainly smart enough to show and exhibit and is in the ideal condition for regular use.
280 YUF drives well with a strong, responsive engine holding very good oil pressure. The column change gearbox is easy to use and changes are smooth. The overdrive comes in and out smoothly and really enhances the driving experience. The history file contains evidence of lots of mechanical upkeep and maintenance to include new brake shoes, new fan belt, rocker gasket, sump gasket, new coolant hoses, new axle oil seals, fulcrum rubbers and pin bushes, new fuel tank lining, new ball joints, king pin and bush set, fuel pump kit general servicing. We also have records for an engine rebuild to include new pistons and rings, new water pump, timing chain and cover oil seal, crank spigot bearing, new valve springs, rear oil seals, unleaded head conversion and new main and big end bearings. This work was completed by 2004 and since then the car has been superbly maintained with another file of supporting invoices. 2009 saw some trim work and work to the steering system and instruments were reconditioned and restored. Recent years has seen very low mileage use but the car has been kept roadworthy and is ready to use and enjoy. Thousands of pounds have been spent on this lovely genuine, honest example and it will not disappoint if looking for a strong, sound and usable example that presents beautifully with a good level of detail. This is a lovely genuine car that can be enjoyed and driven regularly.
