This outstanding Java Green Triumph Spitfire 1500 has covered just 29500 miles from new. Our Spitfire was first registered on the 8th November 1976, supplied new in Java Green with Black upholstery and equipped with overdrive. Service records date back to 1979, MOT certificates date back to 1980 and the car comes with a comprehensive history file.
In 1979 at three years old the Triumph was serviced by Kennings Limited in Matlock, Derbyshire at 6685 miles and in 1980 they serviced and carried out an MOT at 7651 miles. MOT records follow and by 1985 the car had covered 19561 miles and was being maintained by Austin Rover dealers Kitchen Brothers in Diss, Norfolk. VRN 746R stayed in East Anglia right up until 2019 and various local garages continued to maintain and service the car.
It was throughout the 1980's that the Spitfire covered the majority of its mileage. By 1990 the car had covered a warranted 27248 miles. From 1990 to 2014 the car was dry stored and off the road and after some basic re-commissioning, the Triumph covered a further 200 miles before changing hands in 2016. In 2017 further expenditure was carried out to include setting up the carbs, electronic ignition, brake master cylinder, new door weather strips, door seals, sunvisors, seat bases, seat backs, webbing and cards, new carpet set, new header rails, new mohair hood, new windscreen surround, new wiper switch speed motor, re-cored radiator, new cooling pipes, track rod ends and trunnions and new chrome wheel trims.
VRN 746R has arrived with us in stunning condition and whilst in recent years the car has been superbly freshened up, it is indeed a largely original car as expected with such low mileage. The bodywork is of an exceptional standard and presents incredibly well with a lovely paint finish. The chrome work is excellent and the re-trimmed upholstery first class. The engine bay is clean but could do with some detailing, the underside excellent and on the road the car does not disappoint performing superbly. The 1500cc engine is strong, sounds and performs perfectly well, the four speed overdrive gearbox is a delight to use and the car feels tight with impressive handling and braking. With less than 30000 genuine miles, this is a real gem, ideal for regular use, shows, rallies and is a top quality, strong, honest car that is beautiful in every respect.
