1978 Triumph Spitfire 1500

This is one of those wonderful finds. Finding a totally original 22,000 mile from new Spitfire, with one owner from 1978 to 2015 is quite unrepeatable. VJA 180S was purchased from H R Owen in Stockport, Cheshire in 1978 and was supplied new in Russet Brown with Beige trim. The car stayed with its first owner until last year and the history file even contains a photo of the long term owner with the car whilst on honeymoon in Scotland from the 1st October to 8th October 1978.

In recent years the Triumph has covered very little mileage and in July 2015 at 21,985 miles had almost £1000 of expenditure that included a new fuel pump, exhaust silencer, new rear wheel cylinders, windscreen washer pump and serviced front brakes ready for an MOT test which it passed. Prior to this MOT the Spitfire was off the road for many, many years. Whilst the car is now roadworthy and usable, we will be carrying out further work within the price. Due to flat spots, all four tyres will be replaced, the car will also be treated to new engine mounts, new distributor cap, rotor arm, points, condenser, alternator belts and axle exhaust mountings.  The Triumph will also be freshly serviced and supplied with a full 12 months MOT.

VJA 180S is structurally excellent and from inspection underneath, it would appear the car has never required welding work. The car has been garaged almost all its life and is a remarkable find and has to be one of the best original Spitfire's we have seen. The Russet Brown paintwork still retains a shine; there are however the odd dent and mark commensurate with the age of the car. The interior trim appears totally original and is in good order, as is the hood and chrome work. On the road our Spitfire is excellent and has been road tested prior to marketing. It holds the road superbly, brakes efficiently, the engine and gearbox as expected perform like a relatively new Spitfire and the overdrive comes in and out smoothly.  Anybody looking for a totally honest, original car will thoroughly enjoy this usable, genuine low mileage Spitfire.
