We are delighted to offer this late Triumph Spitfire 1500 onto the market. OJU 572W was first registered on the 15th January 1981 and left the factory in Vermillion Red with the desirable option of overdrive. This superbly presented example only records 3 former keepers on the V5 and has covered just 68000 miles from new. Not only does the Spitfire boast low ownership and mileage, the body was restored to a superb standard in 1990 and today presents beautifully with excellent straight panels and remarkably good panel fit.
In recent months OJU 572W has been owned by one of our regular customers, prior to this it has been with one lady owner in York since 1988. From previous MOT's we can see the Spitfire covered 20,000 miles during the 15 years of ownership and we have service records from various garages in York showing the car was regularly serviced and kept in excellent mechanical order. The only major expenditure was carried out in 1990 when the car was totally stripped down and restored with various new panels and re-painted. The Spitfire was rust proofed and clearly kept in a well ventilated garage as 23 years once since restoration, the bodywork is in excellent order and the paint finish has a very good quality finish. We have a well documented photo record of the restoration with the car.
The Triumph has a stunning, original upholstery with very good carpets and excellent, popular chequered seats. The dashboard, door panels and gauges are all in very smart condition and clearly demonstrate the car is a top quality original, low mileage example. Under the bonnet looks very original and the bulk head in particular is in superb condition. The boot area is clean, original and the underside of the car exceptionally good with no corrosion issues. The car is structurally outstanding with a strong, straight underside and is a great base for taking to show standard condition.
On the road OJU 572 is impressive with good performance. The 1493cc engine pulls strongly with impressive acceleration and no knocks, rattles or smoking. The gearbox changes up and down nicely with strong synchromesh and the overdrive comes in and out smoothly. The Triumph handles well with precise steering, sharp brakes and a great road holding. Overall a delightful low mileage example that is ideal for shows, rallies or regular daily use.
