This ultra-original, low mileage manual Triumph Stag offers an excellent opportunity. Firstly the car is the highly desirable MKI model, with preferred manual transmission and overdrive, and has covered just 80,000 miles from new and is still in original specification. Further to this, the car comes with a wonderful history to include original bill of sale, Triumph Motor Company Limited correspondence, MOT's back to 1980 when the car was eight years old and invoices for various work carried out over the years.
BLJ 658K was purchased new by a Hotel owner in Bournemouth who actually ordered the car from Muscat's Garage Ltd, Rue d'Argens, Msida, Malta. The car was ordered in White with Black upholstery and the total price new including anti-freeze, four gallons of fuel, number plates and delivery was £1922. We have a letter dated the 8th March 1972 from Triumph Motor Company Ltd, Export Sales Division, stating the owner could bring the car to the UK and was entitled to keep the car on a tax free basis for a maximum of twelve months and that the car will be registered for a period of twelve months on a free charge basis.
The first owner kept the Stag for 20 years and covered light annual mileage, just 39000 miles. From 1993 to 2005 the car covered a further 12000 miles and now the car records 80000. Last summer the car was in regular use and proved strong mechanically and very reliable. The Triumph V8 engine runs superbly, the manual gearbox is smooth up and down the gearbox and the car brakes and handles well. Invoices are present for general maintenance and we can see the car has had a new steering rack and work carried out to the brakes. The car is strong mechanically and ideal for regular use or long distance touring.
The bodywork is very straight with a lovely paint finish and the car has recently benefitted from bodywork to include new door skins for the first time. The car is structurally excellent and presents well. The interior is totally original, vinyl seat covers are still in good order, carpets and door cards are excellent. With top class MKI examples now commanding over £20,000, this is a car that offers superb value. We are happy to discuss further improvements to the car as some detail improvements could make the car very impressive. We would recommend a new rear bumper, new seat foams, radio for the centre console and engine bay detailing.
