1976 Triumph Stag

This usable Triumph Stag has come to us in part exchange and is a great opportunity for somebody wanting a good usable example that can be further improved. The car has current MOT until January and can be taxed before collection/delivery. The Stag can be driven away and has had recent work such as a re-conditioned gearbox, re-conditioned cylinder heads, new front brakes, rear brakes cylinders, new clutch, belts and Speedo cable. This is a solid car that has both soft top and hard top. The soft top is very good, the hard top is poor but all there and usable.

The interior is clean with very good carpets and seats with the exception on a tear on the base of the driver’s seat (see photo). The dash is good but there is some cracking on the veneer next to the gear stick.

Paintwork is sound but far from perfect. The paint is bright in most areas and would benefit from a good machine polish. Structurally the car is good with a sound, solid underneath (past MOT in January). The wheel arches are all good but there are imperfections on the car. The front and rear wings are very good although there is evidence of minor bubbling on the N/S front wing. The passenger door is very good and the driver’s door is sound with the exception of some bubbling under the paint in the door centre. Rear wings are very good, again some very minor imperfections evident but all minor and cosmetic. The boot lid has some surface rust but again, you wouldn’t need to improve this unless you wanted to take the car to a show condition. Chrome work is bright but the rear o/s blade has some pitting.

The Stag is great to drive with a nice engine and lovely gearbox. Overdrive works and the car handles well. The car is a good driver and whilst it has its imperfections, it’s an excellent base for improvement or fine for a regular or daily driver that’s someone just wants to use.

Lots of old MOT’s and invoices accompany the car, along with a current V5 and current MOT certificate. Recorded mileage is just over 9,000 miles, probably meaning 109,000 from new.
