This lovely RHD Home Market Triumph TR3A was built on the 2nd February 1959, despatched on the 13th February 1959 and supplied new by Macharg, Rennie and Lindsay Limited in Glasgow. Our TR3A was supplied new in Silverstone Grey with Red vynide upholstery, Black hood, disc wheels and registered new WGB 546. The car today retains a great deal of originality and is a superb driving, beautifully aged honest example that looks a real time warp in good cosmetic order and is exceptionally strong mechanically.
We can trace mileage back to 34702 in 1988 confirming to us the car has covered 20,000 miles in the past thirty years. There is an impressive, comprehensive history file detailing expenditure throughout the 1990's and in 2001 the TR3A was treated to a light body restoration that included new sills and wing sections. The car was then treated to a re-spray in its original colour of Silverstone Grey and a photo record of the work is with the car. It would appear this is the cars only real restoration as it retains so much originality and the original seats would suggest this has been a very well-kept car that has likely covered low mileage as suggested by the history file.
From 2012 to 2016 WGB 546 was kept off the road unused and in late 2016 the car came to us in part exchange. We spent in the region of £6,000 on the car that included five new tyres, wishbone and inner arm bushes, new front brake discs and pads, steering rack conversion (original steering box still with the car), replaced the differential nose seal, new engine mountings, new thermostat, thermostat housing and gasket, new coolant hoses, re-conditioned radiator, new cooling fan, new distributor cap, HT leads, coil, rotor arm, all fluids replaced, fuel filter changed, a new dynamo and regulator box fitted and the flasher unit and indicator switch were also replaced. A new set of sidescreens, a brand new hood, door locks and new windscreen seals were also fitted.
Since late 2016 the TR3A has been in Halifax with long term customers and is absolutely on the button and driving lovely. The engine sounds terrific with very good oil pressure, it runs and performs superbly. The four-speed gearbox changes up and down smoothly, the steering is far more advanced than standard and the car handles and brakes well. WGB 546 looks like an original car with its nicely aged yet bright 17-year-old paintwork, panels are lovely and straight, gaps are very good and the brightwork in fine fettle. The interior has an ultra-original, honest feel and is lovely throughout, the gauges all work and the weather equipment is excellent. This is a fine example, its very correct, largely original and drives superbly. The car presents well and it has the provenance of being a UK car retaining its original registration mark, original colours and many original features.
