1960 Triumph TR3A

This top-class Triumph TR3A is an original RHD UK car still retaining its original engine, colour and registration mark. 612 PPD was first registered on the 6th May 1960 and supplied new it its first owner in the West of London who some years later re-located to the South Coast for retirement. The first owner kept the TR3A for 20 years and on the 26th January 1980 the car was sold to its second owner in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. Over the next four years the TR3A only covered 40 miles and in 1984 sold to its next long-term owner who over many years had the car fully rebuilt to a show standard condition.

612 PPD spent almost 30 years with its third owner and having rebuilt and enjoyed the car for many years, it eventually was in the hands of a Yorkshire based classic car collector who has displayed the car for the past few years. When purchased in 1984, the TR3A was MOT tested and then taken off the road by its new owner and eighteen years later in 2002 the car was finally ready for road use and showing. Since completion in 2002, the TR has covered just 2000 miles so is today still in exceptional condition throughout.

Whilst there are lots of invoices dated during the late 1980's, it was the late 1990's when the restoration really progressed. Records with the car detail the 2138cc power option spec liners were fitted to the engine and the cylinder head converted to unleaded. The overdrive gearbox was rebuilt, as was the rear axle and thousands of pounds worth of invoices detail lots of brand-new parts. The body has been completed restored, re-painted including underside, the interior fully re-trimmed, brightwork re-chromed, all new weather equipment fitted, and new chrome wires and tyres put on the car.

Having covered so little mileage since rebuild, the car drives perfectly. Its fabulous on the road, the engine offers impressive performance, excellent oil pressure, the gearbox and overdrive are slick, and the car feels lovely and tight with a superb road holding. The wonderful driving experience is matched with fabulous appearance with a stunning paint finish, exceptional bodyshell, show class engine bay and the underside is exceptionally clean. The interior is of a very high standard and its clear this TR3A has been restored with absolute no expense spared. This TR3A is ideal for regular use and long-distance touring with the advantage of overdrive and the 2138cc liners and will appeal to collectors with its UK matching numbers and colour provenance.
