The Triumph TR5 was only in production for thirteen months from August 1967 to September 1968. As a result, the TR5 is the most sought after and collectable model of the TR range with only 1,161 built for the UK market. The TR5 looks identical to the TR4 with the Michelotti styled body, the main difference being the 150bhp straight six engine with Lucas fuel injection system. This made the Triumph TR5 the first British production sports car to feature petrol injection and was particularly quick with a recorded 0-60mph time of 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 117mph.
NNW 595F is a genuine UK home market car that was built on the 10th January 1968. The TR5 was despatched on the 9th February 1968 and supplied new by A.G Wilson Limited, Leeds with disc wheels, heater and 165-16 Michelin XAS tyres. More recently the TR5 spent eight years in Lanarkshire and when purchased was driven to Scotland from Hampshire. During eight years of ownership in the region of 4000 miles were covered and over this period the owner commissioned a body restoration to include four new wings. The car was fully stripped down, rebuilt and re-painted with a beautiful finish and a photographic record has been retained in the history file. We first took the car in two years ago as a part exchange against a Jaguar XK150. We sold the TR5 to a Doctor in Inverness who has had the car for two years, covering little over 1000 miles in the car and very recently the TR has been with one of our regular customers in South Yorkshire who likes to change frequently. The TR5 has been further improved since being first sold by us and comes back to us with a brand new mohair hood and tonneau, re-upholstered seats, new hoses, wiper motor, front anti-roll bar kit, new rocker cover and considerable hours of detailing and light cosmetic improvements.
The TR5 drives superbly with excellent performance. The engine is strong and pulls through the gears holding excellent oil pressure. The fuel injection system works perfectly and the car starts instantly. The gearbox is strong with excellent syncro's and the overdrive comes in and out smoothly. NNW 595F is top class on the road and has everything you could ask of 1960's English sportscar with quick acceleration, the wonderful note from the six cylinder engine, firm, direct steering, superb handling and a slick gearbox with working overdrive. The car is delightful on the road and offers wonderful 1960's open top touring.
Not only is this TR5 PI mechanically strong, the condition of the exterior and interior are of a similar standard. The body is beautifully straight with no corrosion issues and a fabulous Signal Red paint finish. The chrome work is excellent, the Minilight wheels and tyres excellent and the hood is brand new. The interior is nicely presented with superb seats, excellent carpets and a lovely walnut dash. The boot area is smart and well-presented and the engine bay stunning with beautifully detailed inner wings and ancillaries.
This is an incredibly desirable model and original RHD examples are becoming increasingly harder to find.
