This stunning Triumph TR5 PI is a RHD home market car that was supplied new in Valencia Blue with Tan upholstery. The TR was built on the 27th December and despatched on the 29th January 1968 with overdrive and was registered XXC 407F, a Solihull registration mark. This genuine UK car purchased by its most recent owner in 2000 and since then has been subject of a rolling restoration programme. The car was purchased in relatively original condition with a recorded mileage of 84000 and in its most recent ownership the car has been to taken to a very high standard and has covered a further 14000 miles.
Thousands of pounds worth of receipts are with the car and the first major work was a body restoration in 2001 to include new new sills, inner front and rear wings and new rear valance. The TR was then re-painted, kept in its attractive Valencia Blue and lots of new trims, rubbers and hinges fitted. The TR was treated to various mechanical work relating to brakes and suspension that included new brake calipers, new discs, braided brake hoses, new shock absorbers, new trunnions and poly upper and lower wishbone bushes. Other mechanical work at this early stage of ownership included a new diff pinion oil seal, new bearings, new thrust diff pin and rear axle case gasket.
Having had several years of regular summer use, in 2009 an engine rebuild to include a rebore, new pistons, new bearings and new cam followers was carried out. The TR has had a stage II cylinder head fitted, refaced flywheel and new clutch. At the point of engine rebuild the metering unit was replaced, the Bosch pump rebuilt, the distributor rebuilt and a new stainless steel exhaust system fitted. The TR was also treated to some interior trim work and various detail items to keep the car looking very impressive. Invoices for all the work is with the car.
XXC 407F is a very attractive example with stunning paintwork and chrome, a lovely Surrey Top, smart wire wheels, and a strong, straight bodyshell with good panel gaps. The engine bay is nicely detailed with lovely clean inner wings and bulk head, and the boot compartment and spare wheel are very clean. The underside of the TR5 presents very well and the car is in great shape. The Tan upholstery is very attractive and doesn't need any cosmetic attention in order to be enjoyed. This TR5 is strong mechanically with a powerful rebuilt engine with Stage II head, the gearbox is strong with excellent syncro's and the overdrive comes in and out smoothly. This is a lovely driver with greet handling, sharp brakes and tight steering, and all the electrics work. This isn't a concours car, but is gorgeous looking, strong driving car in structurally excellent order. It's a UK TR5 ready for long distance touring or regular use and 14000 miles with its most recent owner shows it can do this confidently and reliably.
