This original RHD Triumph TR5 PI was built on 17th May 1968 and supplied new in Signal Red with Black Ambla upholstery. The car was fitted with overdrive, heater, tonneau cover and is a genuine home market UK car. When new, the car was subject of a Home Delivery Export Scheme and the vehicle's first owner was Mr H.G Beth in Sweden. The TR5 has spent almost its entire life in Sweden and was brought back into the UK in 2015 by a UK citizen working for Volvo in Sweden.
We sold this lovely useable example to the Deputy Chairman of a prominent Yorkshire Construction Company in 2015. In two years of ownership the TR has proven completely reliable and has successfully carried out some long distance touring in France, covering 1300 miles for the Dijon Classic. Prior to delivering the car we thoroughly prepared the car in our Malton Coachworks workshop. JSA 354G was treated to new rear sub frame top mounts, new headlamps, rear brake shoes, hand brake arms and front brake pads. Upper ball joint bolts were replaced as were exhaust mountings, wipers, the rocker cover gasket and the accelerator cable, control cable, air control knob and heat control knob were also replaced with new. A new spare wheel and tyre were supplied and the TR serviced with new plugs, oil and filter and hasn't missed a beat since.
We can report the TR has a superb, strong engine that runs perfectly both cold and warm. The engine holds superb oil pressure, has correct cooling and performance is very impressive. The TR5 feels quick, responsive and is great fun on the road. JSA 345G has proven totally reliable, starts instantly and is ideal for longer distance touring as proven. The gearbox has lovely slick changes, the overdrive works correctly and the car is fantastic fun to drive.
The TR comes with a comprehensive history file with many invoices and details of work carried out over the years. There is also a file of photographs showing the car having a major rebuild in the early 1990's. We can see the body was removed and fully restored, as was the bare chassis and all mechanicals. The engine has been rebuilt and suspension and brakes replaced with new components.
JSA 345G presents very well with a high standard of paintwork, lovely straight panels and an excellent underside. The chrome work gleams, the knock on Minilight style wheels really set the car off and the hood and cover are in very smart condition. The interior is excellent with clean carpets, good quality seats and excellent dashboard and door panels. Bright Signal Red floors can be seen when lifting up the carpets demonstrating the overall high quality of the car. This is a delightful, on the button example that is ready to be used and enjoyed.
