1970 Triumph TR6 PI 150 BHP
We are delighted to offer this outstanding Triumph TR6 onto the market. VRW 897J is a genuine UK home market CP chassis number 150BHP car with overdrive and is finished in its original Triumph Signal Red with Tan leather upholstery. The car has been with its last owner for 16 years and it comes with a comprehensive history detailing major restoration work. There are three significant years for the TR6, first of all 1985 when it was subject of a body off rebuild by West London classic car specialist British Sportscar Centre. The car spent the 1980's. and 1990's with one owner, a Doctor who was based in Fulham and later Putney before moving north to Cheshire in the 1990's. The next significant point in the cars history was a restoration completed by Cheshire based TR specialists TR Bitz in 1999 and after 18 years and just 5000 miles, in 2017 the car was treated to a full outer re-paint in order to still present as a recently rebuilt car.
Invoices are present detailing the work carried out in London during the 1980's. The body was removed from the chassis and it was restored to a very high standard. Since the mid 1980's, the car hasn't had to have the body off which is testament to the quality of the workmanship carried out in the 1980's. In 1999/2000 TR Bitz stripped the car down to a rolling shell including removal of the interior, windscreen assembly and engine bay area. The bodyshell was then treated to a full inside and out repaint in Triumph Signal Red with the rear valance and windscreen surround in Satin Black. The underbody was stone chipped and sealed and the full length of the chassis and underbody were coated with waxoyl. The wheels were stripped and stove enamelled and fitted with new wheel nuts and new centre medallions. The interior was completely re-trimmed with Tan Connoly hide, wool carpets fitted over sound deadening felts and a Burr walnut dashboard fitted with matching door capping's. A new Moto-Lita steering wheel was fitted, a stereo system fitted and door handle assemblies, window winders, fur-flex seals, inner and outer weather strips, door seals and bonnet seal all replaced. The hood frame was refurbished and a new mohair hood and tonneau fitted. The exterior was finished off with re-chromed bumpers, new grill and headlamps.
Mechanical work included rebuilding the top end of the engine. The cylinder head was removed, fully checked and treated to a new set of valves, exhaust valve seats and the valve guides phosphor bronze lined for operating on unleaded fuel. The cylinders were examined and measured, the fuel pump was replaced with a new Bosch pump and the metering unit changed to convert the car to running on modern unleaded fuel. All new gaskets were used, new heater and engine cooling water hoses fitted and all ignition items replaced. Under the bonnet all major details were inspected and re-conditioned and worked on to provide reliable facility with new radiator cowling, intake manifolds were stripped and cleaned, a new clutch slave and master cylinder fitted. Engine bay brake pipes, fuel lines and clutch lines were all renewed as was the exhaust downpipe. The front suspension was rebuilt with uprated poly bushes, 15% uprated springs and shock absorbers were also fitted for an improved ride. The brakes were rebuilt with new discs, overhauled calipers and new flexible hoses. New top ball joints were fitted as were bottom trunnions and track rod ends, anti-roll bar bushes and anti-roll bar drop links. The rear suspension was stripped down and rebuilt with poly bushes, new drive shaft universal joints and new differential mountings fitted. New brake shoes and wheel cylinders were fitted along with new rear flexible hoses. The shocks were converted to Spax telescopic with the improved assembly near side and offside.
Since this major work with marque specialists the TR6 was covered 5000 miles and has proven to be a superb, reliable example capable of touring anywhere. Mechanically the TR is incredibly strong with a superb engine holding excellent oil pressure and performance is outstanding. The gearbox is superb with perfect synchromesh and the overdrive comes in and out smoothly. The ride and handling are top class and brakes are sharp and efficient. Due to some stone chips and minor age-related imperfections, the TR6 has been recently treated to a first-class outer body re-paint. As a result, the finish of the car is truly stunning with a gleaming glass finish. The body is excellent with superb straight panels, no rust issues, excellent panel gaps and first-class underside. The chrome work is excellent, the hood excellent and the interior has beautifully aged after 17 years and just 5000 miles. VRW 897J is a brilliant car, it's absolutely right and has been rebuilt to the highest of standards. This is an excellent opportunity to buy a car that hasn't been on the market for a very long time.
