We are delighted to offer this RHD home market Triumph TR6 PI onto to the market. VBK 696K is a 150 BHP CP chassis number car that was supplied new in Sapphire Blue by Portsmouth Garages Ltd. The car was built on the 24th May 1972 and was supplied new with overdrive, tonneau cover, seat belts and heater. The car has come to us from a North Yorkshire based collector and over the past six years has fulfilled the purpose of being a completely reliable, very usable TR6. Over the past few years a fortune has been spent on mechanical work and whilst the body was restored many years ago, it does present well and has the looks of a car that can be used and really enjoyed.
From the history file we can see the TR6 had a major body restoration back in 1987. The car was stripped to a bare shell and Triumph specialists Rimmer Brothers supplied various new body panels for the car. The front wings, inner wings, inner and outer sills were replaced and the car treated to a full re-paint on completion. The gearbox was removed and overdrive completely overhauled and various mechanical work was carried out. Since this major bodywork around 28,000 miles have been covered in the car.
Moving onto the late 1990's, invoices detail new ball joints, new trunnions and a fully rebuilt front and rear suspension with poly bushes. Invoices and an expenditure log in 2006 confirm work such as a new high flow Bosch pump, spin on oil filter, steering gaiters, injector pipes, new injectors, new metering unit, brake overhaul and new coolant hoses being carried out. Further work also included Kevlar Green pads, re-conditioned radiator, new thermostat, new steering rack and uprated starter motor. Three years later in 2009 the cylinder head was removed and rebuilt, the engine partially rebuilt with a new piston set and various machining work. Further work at this stage included a new ring gear, clutch, timing chain and new alternator.
Since last changing hands in 2011 a further £4500 has been spent on the TR6. The major work in 2011/2012 included another engine rebuild to include new big end bearings, new main bearings, re-bore and new pistons, new crankshaft oil seals, crankshaft check and polish, new cam followers and an unleaded head conversion. Other work included a re-conditioned injector pump, injectors, brake servo and clutch slave cylinder. Just 1500 miles have been covered since this major work. The car has clearly had some major work and is offered at a very attractive price considering this. The TR6 has not had much recent use so will be fully serviced with us and whilst it has come to us on the road with a current MOT, some further light mechanical work will be carried out as part of our preparation work.
VBK 696K presents well with an attractive paint finish and a strong, structurally excellent underside. It does have minor scrapes and imperfections but is a strong car and is ideal for regular use and long-distance touring. The car comes with a Blue mohair soft top and matching tonneau cover and also has a hard top. The Tan upholstery has delightfully aged and is in lovely order, the chrome work is of a good standard and so is the engine bay and boot area. This is a strong car, its drives very well and whilst is isn't going to win shows, it's a brilliant car to drive and it looks the part. Also to its advantage is the fact it's a UK specification, fuel injection car with overdrive and considering this, the car does offer exceptional value.
