This is a fantastic buy, it’s a genuine UK supplied RHD TR6 that is an absolutely top class driving example with an equally impressive bodyshell. The car was built on the 19th February 1974, supplied by Drabble Allen Limited in Cheshire. The car was first registered on the 11th July 1974 and comes with a Heritage Certificate confirming its build details. The TR was supplied new with overdrive, seat belts, head rests and still retains its Manchester registration mark. Although a fuel injection supplied car, when rebuilt the car was converted to SU carburettors with the correct full manifold conversion and as a result is perfectly tuned, delivers almost 30 mpg when driven carefully and has to be of the smoothest TR6’s we’ve had in recent years. The car is truly exceptional to drive and the engine unbelievably smooth with impressive performance.
The TR6 has been with its most recent owner for two years and a long term rebuild was completed prior to his ownership. The previous owner removed the bodyshell from the chassis and began a ground up restoration. The bodyshell was said to be excellent with only a small amount of metal work required. The front and rear wings had to be replaced but the excellent original floor pans are still in place. The chassis was totally stripped and galvanised, then painted. Mechanically the TR6 has had an engine rebuild to include a brand new crankshaft, new bearings were also fitted and the engine built up with new gaskets. A new clutch and slave cylinder have been fitted, the gearbox completely rebuilt with all new bearings and syncro's and on inspection its evident the car has had new drive shafts, universal joints, hubs and a telescopic damper conversion using Koni adjustable shocks. All new brakes have been fitted with vented discs as an upgrade, a full twin stainless steel exhaust system, new steering rack, poly bushes and new springs have also been fitted to the car. The TR has also had new silicone leads, sports coil, rebuilt carburettors and a quality re-trim in leather. A new double duck hood was also fitted. From looking closely at the car you can see almost all nuts and bolts have been replaced, including door check straps and hinges etc.
The most recent owner has covered 2500 faultless miles in the car and in total since restoration 6000 miles have been covered. The car has been perfectly tuned and ticks over sweetly at 750 rpm at idle and pulls faultlessly through the gears. The car is tremendous to drive and feels quick, responsive and oil pressure at 2000rpm is around 50psi when hot. The upgraded rear suspension ensures the car rides beautifully adding to what is an impressive TR6 driving experience. Brakes pull up straight, the steering is tight and the car feels absolutely right. The rebuild overdrive gearbox is a delight to use and the car requires no mechanical work in order to be used and enjoyed. The bodyshell is structurally excellent with superb floors, the panels are excellent and gaps very good. The paint finish is of a very good standard, the chrome work bright and the boot and engine bay nicely detailed and well presented. This is a well sorted TR6 that is ready to use and enjoy and finding a better driving example could prove difficult. This isn't s a show car, but is in the ideal condition for regular use or long distance touring.
