This is a very rare car in that Del Lines only built 33 Triumph TR8's from new factory shells. From the TR register we know this car was built and completed by Del Lines in August 1981 and subsequently registered TUK 705Y. Specification wise it left Del Lines of Atlantic garage as a coupe with V8 Rover SD1 engine, 5 speed gearbox and finished in red with black vinyl roof and grey leather interior. According to correspondence in the history file this TR8 came off the line with a blue printed engine which gives 153bhp at the wheels whilst the standard engine produced 135bhp. We are told this car was produced as a road rally recce car and was not used or registered for two years until 1983.
TUK 705Y comes with a comprehensive history file including invoices dating back over twenty years and old MOT certificates. This car is eligible for various events and for was used for sprinting from 2004 - 2006. The TR8 was treated to a new clutch and fuel tank, poly bushed suspension, uprated springs, gaz struts and adjustable rear shockers. The car also had a re-conditioned propshaft and a brand new, old stock L.S.D costing over £2000. In the region of £5000 was spent on the car and the TR8 won its class in 2004, 2005 and came 2nd in 2006.
In late 2011 and early 2012 a further £5,000 has been spent on this Del Lines TR8. The car was fully re-painted by a Yorkshire Triumph specialist and had a brand new exhaust system fitted. The engine was fully serviced and new rear brake cylinders were fitted. The alternator was also repaired and the roll cage removed. The interior was put back to a standard specification with original door cards re-fitted. We sold the car to the last owner in 2012 and shortly after collection was driven 1762 miles to the South of Spain to the owners holiday home. Over seven days the car didn't miss a beat. It later returned to the UK and has participated in various events to include the 2017 Durham Automobile Club Classics and the Castle. With its last owner the car has covered in the region of 6000 miles and major expenditure over this period included a full engine rebuild and extensive engine bay detailing and re-paint.
The Triumph TR8 drives superbly with its strong rebuild V8 engine offering blistering performance and a lovely smooth gearbox. The car is seriously quick and handles very well. It was driven back to us over the North Yorkshire Moores and was fantastic fun. The exterior is very smartly presented with bright paintwork and whilst the interior could be improved, it has nice original grey leather seats. This TR8 is great fun and has had considerable expense over recent years. This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase a rare car which can go straight out on the road and be enjoyed or detailed and further improved with regards interior and various cosmetic detail.
