This stunning 1969 early VW Bay Window Camper has been local to us for the past two years. The van was purchased from VW specialists in the South of England having being imported from California in 2012. The VW was mechanically overhauled, put into roadworthy condition and MOT tested. The vehicle was then registered in the UK on the 11th January 2013 and driven to North Yorkshire.
Since the initial purchase in 2013 the most recent owners have spent thousands of pounds taking the vehicle to a very high standard. The VW was taken to Malton Coachworks bodyshop in 2014 for a full strip down and re-paint, and later taken to a local trimmer for a brand new interior. The interior work included a fully replaced ¾ rock and roll bed, storage unit and new flooring. A new fold away table was fitted, buddy seat, spot lights, leisure battery, new headlining, door cards and seats were re-covered to a very high standard. The VW has five operative seat belts and has recently been treated to a new clutch and the 1600cc engine has been set up and tuned at a local performance specialists.
The VW is excellent on the road, it drives exceptionally well and has been used for family days out and holidays to the Lake District, Wales and Cornwall. Performance is impressive; the VW has proven totally reliable, robust and usable and is very enjoyable to drive. CHJ 501G presents superbly with a stunning paint finish, excellent bodywork and lovely smart upholstery. The VW is on the button, ready to go and will prove lots of fun. Early Bay Windows are becoming very desirable and examples like this can be hard to find.
