This is one of those fabulous finds that we enjoy discovering. 1980's hot hatchbacks are in high demand and this desirable MKI Golf GTi has had just one owner on the Isle of Man from new. The one owner, a Doctor living in Douglas was fanatical about this car and throughout its life has been maintained to the very highest of standards.
The Golf was first registered on the 6th October 1981 and supplied new by VW agents Whitestone Garage Ltd on the Isle of Man. We can confirm the car comes with an outstanding service history containing an astonishing 32 VW main dealer service stamps. In 2005, the VW required a continuation service book having fully completed its original booklet. Every service has been completed on the Isle of Man and the services were carried out at 1000 miles and then at 4948, 11129, 13214, 16577, 20949, 23755, 26526, 29944, 31920, 35983, 40030, 41937, 44741, 46468, 50335, 53300, 56909, 61519, 66489, 71695, 75299, 79841, 83134, 86814, 95536, 99313, 102171, 106841, 112276, 114632 and 117896 miles.
Having being so regularly serviced the car is in exceptional mechanical order and requires no work whatsoever. The car is incredible to drive and does not drive like the typical 33 year old vehicle with 118000 miles. The Golf feels strong, precise, and tight and is free from knocks, rattles and any mechanical issues. The performance is still outstanding, the engine is very fit and the gearbox smooth and very quiet. The car drives like one would expect when just a few years old and is something very special on the road.
Further to the huge expenditure on maintaining a car so often with the local VW dealership, very recently the Golf has been treated to a £7000 body restoration and full re-paint. Our bodyshop, Malton Coachworks were asked to take this totally original car and remove glass, the engine and various panels and restore the body to a very high standard. The Golf was treated to new valances, front panel and was fully re-painted in its original colour. With the engine removed, the engine bay was prepared and re-painted and when fully re-fitted, the car was presented in a condition where it could be entered into local shows. The underside was found to be in excellent order and has been cleaned and then waxoyled. The wheels were re-painted, new decals fitted and the bodywork and paintwork now give the car an original first class appearance and this is matched by a beautiful, well cared for original interior. After the bodywork and re-paint, the car was put through an MOT test and serviced at 118878 miles. An optional and rare Wolfsburg steering wheel was fitted and the standard steering wheel is in the boot. The car will be supplied UK registered and comes with a photo record of the body restoration, the full service history and original handbooks. This is a top class example in exceptional condition and has the added value of genuine provenance and full documented history.
