This truly wonderful collectors piece has a recorded mileage of 8,000 and was first registered to 'The Ministry of Public Buildings & Works' and believed to have been used by former Prime Minister Harold Wilson during the early 1970's. The Vanden Plas Princess R was first registered on the 2nd October 1967 and supplied new in Ministry Black livery with Gold coachlines and was fitted with rear seat belts from new. SMT 594F was sold by 'The Ministry' in 1978 and was then kept off the road in storage recently. Since 2010 the Vanden Plas has covered around 2000 miles and has arrived with us in excellent condition throughout. On arrival and at the request of both 'The Huddersfield Examiner' and 'Classic Car Weekly', SMT 594F was transported to Huddersfield, the birth place of Harold Wilson and photographed next to his statue outside Huddersfield Train Station. The articles and photographs add to an already interesting history file that includes the original 'buff' logbook and a photograph of Harold Wilson with his father, next to the Vanden Plas at Heathrow Airport on the 27th August 1971.
SMT 594F is in beautiful condition and is incredibly original. The Ministry Black paint finish is stunning; the bodywork is exceptionally straight and original and as expected with such low mileage, has never required any major work. The chrome work is of a very high standard, as is the original glass and the engine bay is remarkably clean and original. The Vanden Plas runs beautifully with its quiet original 3909cc engine and the automatic transmission functions perfectly. The car handles delightfully with super light steering and brakes and handling are first class. Once we find a buyer for this wonderful piece of motoring history, it will be put through our workshop for a full service and will be supplied with a full 12 months MOT.
The Vanden Plas Princess R was known for its luxury and quality and this is no exception. Whether driving the car or being chauffeured, it is smooth, quiet, comfortable and everything has a feeling of true class. The woodwork is original and presents superbly, carpets and headlining and are excellent and the original, nicely aged soft leather is fabulous. The driver's seat has the signs of age expected when a chauffeur has spent more time in the driver's seat waiting, rather than driving the car. The rear picnic tables are still in place, as are the specially ordered Britax rear seats belts and even the radio works. The original boot carpet and battery cover is in excellent order and the original jack is still in place. This is a wonderful rare opportunity to purchase a car worthy of any collection.
