The immense success of ‘The Long Way Round’, a televised 2004 motorcycle adventure from London, eastward to New York via Mongolia, Russia and Alaska immortalised the BMW R1150 GS.
Three years later in ‘The Long Way Down' Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman teamed up once again to take two new R1200s from John O'Groats at the northernmost tip of Scotland to Cape Agulhas on the southernmost tip of South Africa. The two epic journeys involving over 32000 miles of wild riding pushed the tough BMWs to the top of the list of ‘must have' adventure bikes.
Across the prairies of Canada to the boggy terrain of Eastern Russia the endurance of these bikes was tested to the limit.
Our 2005 example has by contrast had an easy life. In immaculate condition reflecting the pride of its owner and a meticulous service history, this R1200 wants for nothing. First registered on the 5th November 2005 and finished in Ocean Blue, this bike was supplied new by BMW agents Rainbow Motorcycles Ltd and the supplying dealer carried out the first six services at 672, 6368, 12169, 18178, 24022 and 30025 in 2008. Services since as recorded at 36150, 41975, 48000, 53900 and a record log of all work is listed in the service manual. Invoices and receipts are present for much of the service work and the bike has arrived with us haivng covered 64000 from new.
Exhilarating performance to match many Ferraris is matched by an unparalleled ability in arduous conditions. Handsome, potent and capable, this good value BMW boxer twin is ready for the next adventure.
